Silenced ~ review

silenced-korean-film Silenced AKA The Crucible

This movie I saw was listed on Netflix and I noticed Gong Yoo was in it. So I decided to read the summery

Amid a multitude of cover-ups, a caring teacher attempts to publicly expose faculty members who are molesting some hearing-impaired students.

I have seen a Japanese movie about disabilities in Japan “Josee, the Tiger and the Fish”, I don’t if that movie was based on a true story but Silenced is based on a novel and a true story. Not that that was what only drew to watch this movie. But I am currently working as a teacher in Japan so I can understand what its like to want to help your students if they seem distant.

I do have to admit, some of the dialogue was lost on me as Japan Netflix only had Japanese subs to the Korean Audio. So I was probably only able to understand 50% (I do know some Korean too, which helps). But I still wanted to watch.

I’ve got to say that I loved the acting and how the actors worked well together. When it comes to not fully understanding the language, the action of emotions plays a huge role. And so with that, I was able to understand the scenes and what they were about.

I would really love to watch this movie again, with English subtitles next time, just to be able to fully understand what was actually being said. But I found this movie so moving. I tried to learn sign language back when I was a Junior/Middle school student for a year. I loved learning a new way to communicate, however practising was difficult. So I gave up after a year although I never lost interest.

Now, I don’t want to go into the story, because I feel like what I might say will spoil it. I will say this shows how some countries still abuse those who are impaired in some aspect. As well as possibly portraying those who are willing to help cover up their actions with whatever means they can. I honestly cannot tell you if this is still in Korea today, because I’ve never stayed in this country long enough, let alone in the smaller cities or towns.

Overall, I would recommend you watch this movie. Although, be warned, its not for the faint hearted. This is a R+18 movie as some scenes are a little graphic due to the content of the movies story. But please don’t be put off. If you do decide to watch it, please feel free to comment below.

Joker Game ~ Review

Joker GameNow this is going to be a true Kame Fan girl post. I’m not even going to apologise for it. The only people I will apologise to are my friends who went with me to see it. The fan girl in me couldn’t hide away from such fan service scenes.

Please be aware, there are spoilers and I don’t have the tags in use, so please at your own risk.

This movie is based a novel with the same name. Its set during the Second World War where a man sentenced to death is saved by a mysterious guy and is asked to become a spy. Now, my reasons for watching the movie, apart from all the smexy Kame scenes were to see what his English would be like. I haven’t seen his baseball movie yet, but from what a fellow Kame fan said, he didn’t really appear much and I’m not really a baseball fan anyway, so it doesn’t matter.

Compared to other roles that Kame has played, this was the first time I’ve seen him in a more serious role. He has been in comedies, romance drama’s etc. But this is the first movie where he gets to do cool fighting scenes, run about, and of course, the torture scene (if you don’t understand, then you clearly haven’t seen the trailer for this movie).

I have to say that I was also surprised to see Koide Keisuke. He has been in a few movies I’ve seen but I wasn’t expecting to see him in Joker Game. But it was a nice surprise.

I do have to say, that I wasn’t really impressed with the female lead, Fukada Kyouko, I felt like she doesn’t know much expression.  There was too many mysterious things about her and even I couldn’t understand how she suddenly changed clothes when they weren’t even around it. I had no idea where she hid them…… I haven’t read the novel so I can’t really tell if they were meant to appear out of thin air or not. I know that Spy’s are meant to have many hidden techniques, but it was way too strange,

Now, I am still not too sure about Kame having his hair sleeked back, but at least it allows for many neck porn shots and he does pull off wearing hats well. Even more so when Kame is in a suit, When Kame is in a suite, nothing can go wrong. That and Asian guys pull of wearing a suit better than western. It just doesn’t fit a western guy as well as Asian guys, which is a little strange. But I am not complaining. I am surprised as to how Kame can keep a white suit, white. Its hardest colour to keep clean, yet to see Kame running, jumping, hiding and getting his smexiness on in the suite, I do wonder if the cleaners really like having to keep washing it all. Yet, when it came to the Kame torture scene, I failed to keep my voice down and boy was that a hot scene. Kame with dripping wet hair, tied up with rope….

I really couldn’t contain the fan girl inside and I am sure my friend were worried I would hyper ventilate. But Boy! That was definitely one of the best scenes!!

Overall, the movie was interesting to watch. Even for someone who hasn’t read the novel. It was great to see Kame have a little romance, but it wasn’t the main part of the movie. Instead it was more about him trying to find something of importance and getting chased by the villains (which for this movie, just so happens to be a British guy…. Well we do play the best villains.).

It’s definitely a movie to watch if you are a Kame fan. It’s refreshing to see him in a different role and genre of movie where isn’t the main focal guy in a romance drama. So watch it when you get the chance. I am going to have to buy the DVD when it comes out or my fan girl side will hate me for ever!

るろうに剣心 伝説の最期編 ~ Review

Rurouni Kenshin 3rd movie Sorry it has taken me a while to get round to writing this review T__T

Now I have got to say, I’ve never been so happy to have two movies so close together. But I was so excited to see this movie and that didn’t help by the fact you could buy Kenshin merchandise before going into to the cinema.. I probably spent more money than I should have.. but when you have a Hello Kitty cosplaying as Kenshin.. what else could I do 😛

I am so glad that they did three live action movies for this amazing manga. I wasn’t able to finish reading it before going to see the final movie. But I could understand what was going on without the subtitles. So I am proud of myself for that. But I had watched the anime many years ago, so I could understand what was going on.

The fighting scene’s in this movie were amazing and I hope the DVD has many bonus features of the practise sessions with Satoh Takeru. I would happily watch all of them and I might start picking up a few moves 😛

I was really curious to see how they would end the movie and to be honest.. right now I can’t really remember it well apart from singing along to ONE OK ROCK’s awesome “Heartache”, to which I am still waiting to hear again… I have to wait next year for their next album, which I was buy asap!

If you have watched the previous movies, then you had better watch this one because it definitely won’t disappoint. The fights are amazing as the previous movies, if not better. You get to see Takeru with long hair that is not a pony tail.. which really didn’t suit him. It looked too girly for Takeru. But it was still kind of cute.

You seriously have to watch all three of these movies!! Be sure to buy the DVD’s and sit in awe of Satoh Takeru’s amazing performance.

괜찮아, 사랑이야 ~ Review

Its Okay, Thats Love First of all, I must apologise for this review if it starts to get really long. This drama was very moving for me and I will to focus of review the series as much as I can, rather than rant about what actually comes to my mind.

Its a story about a guy who is a famous author. But his girlfriend then plagiarizes his novel. He meets a psychiatrist on a TV show and takes a liking to her. Due to problems with the media, he moves into a house share where it just so happens to be the same house where the psychiatrist Ji Hae Su lives. He tries to live a quiet life style but slowly learns about the traumatic past of all his house mates.

Now this drama deals with a lot mental disorders and I think this helped me understand a lot about how even people who think they are strong and are not ill, yet have a traumatic event in their past can be ill without knowing it. I have problems with my mental health in the past and I tried not to watch it all in one goes because I was worried I would start to relate and think back to past events. Which sadly, didn’t work out when I almost finished the drama last night. But that is what you get when you have previously dated people with a mental disorder. And later having depression and anxiety a few years later.

I guess that is why I was interested in watching this drama. I really wanted to understand more about the different kinds and how it really does effect their lives.

It really is a great drama and its very interesting to see couples where one has an illness but has a supporting partner who stands by them and helps support them everyday. I guess we are really looking for someone who will accept the flaws and just support them in the way that they need. Its not always easy to find someone like that, but once you do, please don’t let go of them. Its rare to find the right person for you.

The actors did very well in portraying their characters. I had watched part of episode 5 while I was on holiday in Korea, and I finally got round to watching it. Its definitely a rare drama that touches on such a subject that is kind of hidden from society and people try to ignore. It was really put together and the cast really did an amazing job. Plus D.O. was cute and I hope he acts more in the future if he can.

I would suggest you watch this drama if you get the chance. Its a great eye opener but be careful. I was expecting to cry because of the last two episodes, but it was very moving for me.

3 Days ~ REVIEW

3 DaysThe Micky (Park Yu Chun) fan girl is let loose once again!

And the man is back! It is hard to believe that his last Drama was 보고싶다 back in 2012. But this time he is not a cop, but bodyguard to the president of South Korea.

I saw the trailer this when I think I was watching 별에서 온 그대. It had Yu Chun in it and I was curious as to what kind of character he would play this time.

His character this time gets some cool fight scene’s this time where he gets to show his flexibility as a dancer into some very nice choreographed fight scene’s.

I do wonder if its Yu Chun’s personal preferences, or WHY THE HELL DOES HE WEAR TURTLE NECKS IN HIS DRAMA’S?????????????????????????????????????????????????????? This question has baffled me for such a long time. No offence, Yu Chun, but please stop! They really don’t suit you. You are sexy in a suit, a lot cut t-shirt, and even a cardigan. But Turtle necks do nothing for you!! It just makes your head look small.

And why must he cry in all his drama’s?? I’ve yet to see a Yu Chun drama where doesn’t cry. I want to see him play a strong character who protects and doesn’t have an emotional break down because something bad happened to someone he knows.

It was a very interesting drama about a guy who is trying to find the reason behind his father’s sudden death and it relating to a confidential document that he had with him at the time. It has a few confusing scene’s where I wondered if they were really important or not. But it was interesting to watch. I wish there was more chemistry development between to the two lead characters, but this wasn’t a romance drama, so it suited the genre really well.

It is worth the watch if you like the detective kind of drama’s where there isn’t a strong presence of romance blooming over a few episodes. It really looks about one’s struggles to have to deal with personal emotions and their very important job where there could be huge consequences if something goes wrong.

But please watch and then write a comment below and tell me what you thought.

るろうに剣心 ~ REVIEW

Rurouni KenshinI cannot believe I failed to review this when I first saw it in August 2013.

I am such a bad person!! But seeing as I plan to see the second movie this weekend (or in the near future), I am writing it now.

Before I get started, My wonder friend Lydia (Bluesnow – you know who are!) got me into the anime back in 2009. OMG! Its been so long since I saw that anime and the OVA’s but I clearly remember them. That is how good it was! Honestly! Watch them!

To the movie..

When I first heard who was playing Kenshin, my heart stopped, I fan girl screamed and became overly excited. Sato Takeru is one of those little gems that you find once in a blue moon. I first saw him in Bloody Monday (which I did write a review about a few years ago, but it got lost when I wasn’t able to export all my entries to back them up). He was good in the drama next to Miura Haruma, that I went in search for other drama’s he had previous been in. He was great in Rookies with his wild dread-lock styled hair. Then I found the first drama he had been in, Princess Princess D, which to this day, refuse to remember what it was like because I couldn’t bare to see him in a lolita style dress. Stick to just being awesome as you Takeru-san!!

The rest of cast was well chosen. Although, some I had not seen before, other’s I had seen and not realised it. Especially, Takei Emi (Kaoru Kamiya in the movie) who I found out played Hibino Tsubaki in Kyou, koi wo hajimemasu.

I was really interested in seeing how they were going to shoot the action scene’s. Because Kenshin is  a badass with a sword and has great agility. I had watched the trailers for the movie many times and sang along with my favourite J-Rock band ONE OK ROCK! The movie scene’s really didn’t disappoint.

It was great to see Takeru running around in this sexy way avoiding swings from well choreographed sword fighting and knocking them down with Sakabatou (thats the name of his sword for those who don’t know). With his sexy calm collected facial expression to the small polite, yet cheeky smile when he is talking to Kaoru-dono.

Sexy Kenshin

If you are a Kenshin fan, then this is a must see movie! It is great to see the characters come to life as an actually person. And I am sure Sato will forever be remembered for such his great performance as Kenshin for the rest of his life. But its definitely not someone to be ashamed of. Its a great movie, has great fighting scene’s and blood splats every where with the one of the most sexiest Japanese actors playing the main role.

What is there not to love about this movie?!?!
(thats a rhetorical question, BTW!)

옥탑방 왕세자 ~ Review

Rooftop Prince옥탑방 왕세자 or Rooftop Prince

Again, sorry for the late review of this drama T_T

I watched this drama after I watched “Missing You” because I wanted to see how good Micky would be in another drama.

This really didn’t disappoint my expectations. After the loss of princess, Crown Prince Lee Gak and his three comrades try to find the culprits. Instead,  find themselves in the future with no where to go and no idea of what is going on. By chance, they meet Park Ha and end up having to stay at her apartment.

This is a really nice drama, which some epic comedy moments. Song Man Bo is my favouite comrade, who really does pull of a beautiful women very well but then looks super hot in a suit. But the three comrades really do make the perfect comedy trio who are very supportive and loyal of their Prince.

This can be cliché at times and Lee Gak tries his best to show he likes Park Ha in his on way. Although, he can be really clumsy and make a lot of mistakes, I think that is the characters charm. No one is perfect, not even a Crown Prince. If only I could find my Prince……

The romance between Lee Gak and Park Ha is developed really nicely and makes you really hope they get to be together. Of course, helped with the amazing supporting cast that makes it a must see drama.

보고싶다 ~ Review

Missing You보고싶다 or Missing You

I really should first apologise for writing this review so late! I actually finished watching this drama in August 2013, but I didn’t realise that I never wrote a review. Sorry!

This drama really did make me like Micky more as an actor. And he didn’t take of his shirt to interest me! I really love watching Yun Eun Hye since I saw her movie “Little Black Dress”. She definitely is definitely a good actress. I did marathon this drama because it was so moving and I really hated the young guy who wanted the girl all to his self and is a total selfish bastard. But  that’s just my opinion.

I loved how this drama didn’t so focus on the female. Instead, it showed how Han Jeong Woo was in constant search for her and never once believed she was dead. I really loved this view rather than it always being about a girl being in love. It had Micky showing different emotion’s and I loved his acting. He adorable smile won me over.

The only down side, is I really hated Gang Hyeong Jun. He was this obsessed character, who used money to keep people close to him. He was a spoilt child who I just totally detested by. But the sweet romance between Lee Su Yeon and Jeong Woo was romantic, even with Jeong Woo as the focus of trying to win her again and show that he has always had her in his heart. Which girl wouldn’t love that?!?!

If you are fed up with the cliché drama’s, then please give this one a try. It really was a good watch!

미남이 시네요 ~ Review

You're Beautiful
미남이 시네요 or You’re Beautiful Review.

I have finally gotten round to seeing this drama. I put it on my list after watching the Japanese version “美男ですね”. Its taken me three years to get around to watching it, I am so bad (>.<)

I was actually looking forward to watching this because it has two of my favourite male singers in the cast. With Jeong Yong Hwa (C.N.Blue) who was in Heart Strings with Park Sin Hye who is also in this drama. Then there is Lee Hong Gi (F.T.Island), this is the first time I’ve seen him act but he is so adorable as Jeremy.

I really loved this drama. Although, I was a little disappointed that the two main actor’s couldn’t really play instruments like Yong Hwa and Hong Gi. But I guess that can’t be helped. But the cast went well together and I was really cheering for Soo Woo most of the time. He really did care for Mi Nam. But I guess he couldn’t get close after Tae Kyeong got close to her and showed her a different side that no one else saw.

If you have seen 美男ですね and haven’t seen the original version, then you really need to. The Japanese drama just isn’t the same and I really do prefer the Korean drama for sure. The characters relationships deepen better and it has more episodes so you can really understand the characters emotions more.

This will never disappoint a drama lover. Even more so as it develops in the perfect way and it doesn’t feel rushed or incomplete.

별에서 온 그대 ~ Review

You Who Came From The Stars별에서 온 그대 or You Who Came From The Stars (my favourite translation of the title) Review

I admit, I started to watch this after seeing people constantly posting pictures on Tumblr. I know its a weird reason, but I was interested in what it would be like.

At first, I was really annoyed by Cheon Song Yi. Her English was a little annoying for me. But I guess it was the strong American accent that annoyed me more than anything. I did like how Jeon Ji Hyeon tried though. I think it was the character’s ego that annoyed me, when she thought she was everything.

Yet when I saw Do Min Joo(Kim Soo Hyun) I was glad he was a quiet, introverted in a way. It seemed to suit the qualities of an Alien. The TowelAlthough, I am still unsure as to why a towel is warn in the shower, I am sure some clever photography would have been best to make the view think he was naked… was the towel really necessary? I guess it was really a PG drama… but it was shown at 22:00… no young child should be up at this time…. Should have used clever shooting!

It was great to see Do Min Jo slowly open up and actually connect with human’s. Even if it was to an Actress who likes the lime-light. But she soon because a softy, and of course,  a clingy women who tries to act strong but isn’t inside.

The chemistry between the two leads was cute and it was nice to see them show more emotions as you watch each episode. Though, the supporting characters were too much most of the time. This drama had a lot of people who were clinging to their crushes and to be honest….. THEY SEEMED LIKE STALKERS!!! it was a little scary at times. If I ever become like that, I want someone to shoot me!

Overall, I really enjoyed watching it and was sympathizing with Do Min Jo’s emotional realization of what love really is. It was great to see him portray those heart squeezing scenes (when yo watch the clips at the end of each episode, you will understand).

I think the cast was picked well as all were able to show different emotions. Although, I found the side story of the Lee brother’s to be a little stale and wanted to skip past to go back to the lovers. But that is my personal opinion.

If you love watching romantic drama’s, then this should definitely be on your list to watch. Its not the normal where the female is this cutesy, dumb, and naive character. Yet, she can really get annoying at times. I think it is a little appealing to watch in some aspects. I wasn’t disappointed at the end of each episode. Instead, I was kept at the edge of my seat, waiting for the next episode to see what happens. Cliff hangers were good and the little bonus clips at the end of each episode added to the story and to the characters.

Watch it when you get the chance!!!
