Spring Vacation

I can’t believe its Spring Vacation already. Its already been a bit of a roller-coaster.

To think that I’ve finished two years in Japan. I’m loving every minute and I’ve still not had the thought of really not wanting to go to work because of some people I work with. The students still make me laugh. But this vacation has been very relaxing being able to spend time with my family.

Starting my vacation was two days in Tokyo. I arrived after renewing my contact with Interac. In Tokyo, I went to Shibuya to see more of the shops and wonder around to see what was there. This time not being ill compared to last year.

The only downside, was that I went back to my favourite place in Tokyo – Ikebukuro – to see Sunshine City and try to find food. Only Ikebukuro was too busy on both days, so I only ate quickly at any fast food restaurant I could find. But I went shopping really on the first day. Because I had a list of things I wanted to get and thought it would be best to buy in Tokyo as the stores are bigger and things are easier to find. Except in Tower Records in Shibuya, where they have 7 floors and I eventually found the things I was after. To only have to down to the first floor to collect my posters. Which does make sense, it was just difficult because there was going to be a LIVE event on the first (ground) floor and everyone was crowding round.

For the second day, I walked around with my camera and went to Akihabara to see what it was actually like. I think you really need to go with an Otaku friend and walk around the shops. I think I only went into their small Animate store. Before going back to Ikebukuro because its a great place.

The only thing that made me feel uneasy, was when I was at the airport and instead of going to JAL gates, I was directed to British Airways. But I went straight to the desk, I handed my ticket and passport (plus resident card, just in case). I kept replying in Japanese out of habit and got my window seat. I was so happy to have things sorted out quickly.

I arrived back in England safely and I surprised my Parents as they weren’t looking in the direction I entered. After a long almost 13 hours flight, my parents walked me to the car as they drove me back home. It was so strange to notice the real differences between Japan and England. The fact that I could understand most people threw me off a little. Even the little things in Japan I missed. Like the organised queues on the escalators and being able to find vending machines everywhere. You think I would find it strange the other way around. But living in Japan is more like a home. I guess I just adapted a lot more.

Since being in England a lot has happened. I’ve tried to spend time with the friends that I’ve missed. I even had to get new glasses to get a stronger lens for my right eye. I even celebrated my 29th Birthday with my parents and my best friend and her family. I had really missed my best friend. The year has gone by quickly, but it felt like forever since I saw her last. Her little princess has grown up so much. She is so cute and she has grown up so much since I saw her last year.

For my Birthday treat, My mother and I went to Harry Potter Studio Tour in London, UK. I was so gutted last year when my parents went soon after I returned to Japan. It was amazing! I loved seeing parts of the sets, costumes, props and creations used for the movies. We spent almost four hours just walking around and taking 376 photographs. I took a lot of selfies with my handy selfie-stick.

Yet, something’s don’t happen as planned. Last week, I was spending time supporting my Mother as we both spent time with Grandmother before she sadly yet peacefully passed away. All of her family, only a few members who weren’t able or respectfully had space, were with her.

There are a lot of moments that surprise you. But others you will treasure and never forget for the rest of you life. You will always have those who support you. Who will be a shoulder to cry on. Who understands how you feel. You just have to be there for each other. Because you never know when one might be too stubborn and fight OR give in and let go. But waiting for that peaceful moment is the hardest. As you don’t know when things are going to happen. Yet words are always hard to find.

At the moment, I am waiting to hear news about possibly getting funeral dates, which might not get sorted till I have returned to Japan. I am also waiting to hear about my year schedule for this year. I hope it hasn’t changed much, but I only know that my schools haven’t changed. But I am looking forward to meeting the new students this year but it will be the last year I see the students who were in their first year when I arrived. To see them graduate will be something special next year.

Christmas Holiday

Finally.. an Up-Date!

I am sorry for not posting this any sooner, but I have been really busy with helping students write about their own winter vacation and then preparing them for their final exams. As well as grading them for their speaking and reading tests.

So this winter vacation has been really eventful. To start off with, I had a 忘年会 or “Forget the year party” with my main school. It was the first time I had been asked out to join a party with this school and it was hilarious to see how light weight some teachers are. There was an after party for female staff, which I was invited to as well. Although I didn’t realise I had to prepare a gift for a secret santa… Bugger!

The next day, I travelled to Tokyo and went to the best café I’ve ever been to!

The Moomin café is the cutest café I have ever been to. So if you happen to go to the café on your own, then they will put a Moomin character opposite you to keep you company. How cute is that?!?!?! It was the only reason I want to go to Tokyo a day early before meeting going to Narita Airport.

The next day, on December 21st, I was almost an hour late getting to the airport to meet my parents because I got on the wrong train. But I was so happy they arrived safely. I was worried they have big difficulties because its their first holiday abroad and its to Japan where they have no knowledge of the language. After meeting them and then finally eating my breakfast, we set off to Tokyo Station and walked around for a little bit before catching the Shinkansen to Ninohe where I left my car, so I could drive them my apartment in Kuji.

For the first week, we stayed in Kuji and I took them to some places near by so they could see local sites etc. As well was meeting my friends in Ninohe where we had a Christmas Party and I made my first cake in Japan!! As well as successfully cooking a roast-like Christmas Dinner for my parents. It was great to finally to be able to cook food I had missed for such a long time.

On the 28th we took the Night bus to Tokyo and went to Asakusa to see the Temple there. But in typical British fashion, it was raining and I didn’t have my umbrella with me, so we ended up going back to Tokyo station as I wasn’t really sure my parents would want to go to Ikebukuro (my favourite part of Tokyo)… We waited there before getting on the Shinkansen to Osaka. I was really nervous about this part of the holiday because I’m not really that good at planning a holiday (compared to my friend Hoiming) and my Japanese is fairly limited.

I still had fun and I think my parents enjoyed seeing the city and Osaka Castle. I think they might have gotten a little sick on Shinsaibashi Suji (a famous long shopping roofed arcade – its really hard to describe). The main two reasons to go to Osaka is because…

Hoiming go tickets to KAT-TUN’s countdown LIVE on New Year’s EVE! We got such great seats this time and it was totally worth the price. Being so close to main stage and to the travelling stages where I got to see Kame’s might fine self perched on the rail to him doing his sexy hip swaying 😛 I did scream a lot, and Hoiming had to put up with strange comments, but we both enjoyed the concert. It was just the train ride back to Osaka station that was not so pleasant. Getting literally pushed onto a train at 2am is not really my cup of tea and the train was so crowded that everyone almost fell over.

Finally going to Universal Studio’s Japan and going to Harry Potter World. It was fun to go on the different rides. The only downside was, it was really cold and we weren’t really dressed for it to snow, which it did. Plus, the time we could get to get into Harry Potter world was 5:30pm. We had to walk round for hours before we could go to the place I wanted to go to. But we got to go on four other rides, so it wasn’t so bad.

It was fun to be back in Osaka after a year, and it possibly might turn into a yearly thing if Hoiming can get tickets again next year. So that will be cool. But I won’t be there for long because I have to fly back to England to go to my Older Brother’s Wedding on the 2nd of January 2016. I really need to save up money for that trip and book my flight back in plenty of time. Its just a shame that I will be going to the wedding without a plus one T_T but who knows, there is still 11 months to go 😛

FOr the last week of my parents vacation, we stayed in Kuji again and I took them to Ryusendo Caves. Mum had a little panic attack on the never ending stair case, but she did and I proud of her for not giving up. But I didn’t really give her a choice and dragged up and down the stairs 😛 At least she can say she has done it now 😛

Now my parents are planning to back to Japan in 2016 in March so they can see the Sakura in Sendai, which is where they want to go next. So that will be nice. It just means I have to save a lot of money this year for both vacations next year >.<

Overall, I had a great vacation with my parents and I was a little sad and worried when they travelled to Tokyo alone but they got back to England safely and I’m glad they enjoyed themselves.

Now In Tokyo!

In Tokyo!I have arrived in Tokyo!!  I am just waiting for my hotel room to warm up while I really plan where I want to go here.

Tue. 18th March: Ikebukuro, to walk around the shops and try and find the cinema such as this:
Durarara!!If you have watchedデュラララ!! then you will understand. Its definitely a great novel, manga and anime.  ROFL! Well its not often that I get to go to Tokyo, so I might as well do an Otaku thing LOL

I am sure I will looking around the shops and seeing if I can find a Hello Kitty store for presents for friends. But I am going to Shibuya, so if I can’t find what I’m looking for, there is bound to be something in Shibuya!

Then go to Shinjuku, to see if I can find the sculptures I’m looking for. There is one that I want to take a selfie next to! Just to show I’ve been there hahaha

Wed. 19th March (Optional): Going to Shibuya just to see what’s there and try to walk across the famous crossing!  Really, if I have time, I might try to go to Shibuya on Tuesday before I meet up with a friend to have a meal for my birthday.

Wed. 19th March: Visit a temple and see any other sites before going back to my hotel, to sleep before leaving in the morning to get to Narita Airport.
